The Xonotic arena shooter ported to the browser with P2P multiplayer
Claude Code ported the open-source FPS Xonotic to WebAssembly and WebGL2, optimised its assets and added browser-to-browser multiplayer.
The full story
The maker tested how far Claude Code, using Fable 5, could get porting a full open-source game to the browser, choosing the arena shooter Xonotic, a native C and OpenGL game on the DarkPlaces engine. The engine was compiled to WebAssembly and WebGL2 running off the main thread, textures were converted to GPU-compressed formats, audio re-encoded, and assets streamed on demand.
Multiplayer runs browser to browser over WebRTC, with a small signalling layer only for setting up the connection. The maker says it is still experimental but fully playable.
