The full story
Starling is a Linux desktop environment, mostly built with Claude Code. It lets you switch from a regular 2D desktop into a walkable 3D city with your real app windows floating in the scene. Chrome, a terminal, a file explorer and a video player run there, and a 3D window carousel switches between them.
The world has a waterfront, moving boats and a tram, and each display gets its own viewpoint. It is still early, at version 0.5.0, with the source on GitHub.
