Retro handheld firmware flash and e-reader boot recovery
A blogger used Claude Code to diagnose an NXP i.MX6 e-reader and try to build a custom u-boot. The device reached fastboot, but storage initialization stalled. The same post describes flashing the community muOS firmware onto a retro handheld with dd; how much of that Claude did is unclear.
The full story
This entry comes from a blog post, "Plugging things in to see what happens", in which the author plugged old devices into a computer and let Claude Code work out what they were. For an NXP i.MX6-based e-reader, Claude diagnosed the boot state and tried building a custom u-boot. The device got as far as fastboot, but storage set-up stalled. The same post describes flashing the community muOS firmware onto a retro handheld with dd.
The link now opens the author's consulting homepage, so the original details can't be re-checked.
The problem was narrowed down, but the device was not fully fixed.
