Legends of Future Past, a 1992 CompuServe game, rebuilt from its scripts
A 30-year-old online game whose source was lost was rebuilt by Claude Code from surviving GM scripts, a manual and a gameplay recording.
The full story
In 1992 the poster built an online multiplayer game called Legends of Future Past, which ran on CompuServe until the last day of 1999. The source code did not survive, but hundreds of script files in a scripting language he invented for Game Masters, a 1998 GM manual and a 1996 gameplay recording did.
He gave all of that to Claude Code with little instruction beyond working out what the language does and rebuilding the game. He says Claude inferred the language's grammar from the scripts and manual, then rebuilt 2,273 rooms, 1,990 items, 297 monster types, 88 spells, crafting and combat in a weekend. The game is free to play and the code is open source.
