The full story
Over two days with Claude connected to Home Assistant through the ha-mcp server, the owner had it read and write the live setup. Claude suggested and built carbon monoxide and extreme temperature alerts that sound on both phones at full volume, bypassing do-not-disturb, with spoken announcements, and a garage automation that checks whether both of them left within ten minutes of each other.
It also merged duplicate automations, labelled them all and cleaned up naming. When the CO alert did not ring on a Samsung phone set to vibrate, Claude looked up the fix, got the syntax wrong, checked its own automation trace and corrected it.
