FFmpeg converts almost everything, except subtitles across formats. Converting text subtitles like SRT to Blu-ray PGS bitmaps has failed with "Subtitle encoding currently only possible from text to text or bitmap to bitmap" since ticket #3819 was filed in 2014. The author built a fix with Claude Code. It even keeps fades, colour changes and movement from styled ASS/SSA subtitles, and handles overlapping timings. The Hacker News post got 38 points.
