The full story
Canon offers no working macOS driver for the PIXMA G3010, so the owner was stuck printing and scanning from Canon's iPhone app. They captured the iPhone app's network traffic and had Claude Code reverse engineer the protocol from it. The result, pixma-rs, is an open-source Rust driver for printing and scanning on macOS Ventura, Sonoma and Sequoia, with no Canon software needed.
