AtomSim: a browser app that solves atoms from scratch
A teaching tool, built with Claude, that solves atoms with a Hartree-Fock solver and shows electron clouds, energy levels and spectra, with a tag on every number.

The full story
Atom Sim solves atoms from scratch in the browser. Hydrogen comes from closed-form maths, while atoms such as carbon and argon come from a Hartree-Fock solver the maker wrote. Results can be viewed as a 3D electron cloud, a 2D slice, a radial plot, an energy-level diagram or an emission spectrum.
Users can also break the physics on purpose, for example by switching off the Pauli exclusion principle or typing in their own potential. Every number carries a tag saying how it was made, such as exact, numerical or approximation.
