The full story
Their apartment building uses an Urmet intercom whose phone app can let visitors in remotely but is clunky and unreliable. They set out to build something on their homelab that mimics the app so Home Assistant could unlock the door.
They searched through the decompiled app and wrote some C, then, "humbled and embarrassed" by how rusty their C had become, turned to Claude to finish it. They can now open the building's front door from Home Assistant with a REST command.
