The full story
This is an MIT-licensed documentation and engine remake project for Total Annihilation. The poster says it remasters the original palette-based 2D graphics at runtime and adds a modern GPU renderer with 3D lighting, bloom, water and reflections, running on Windows, Mac and Linux.
The game formats and engine behaviours are documented online. The poster used Claude and Codex together, finding Claude a bit better at coding and optimising. It is still a work in progress with daily updates.
