An MT6701 magnetic sensor used as a rotary encoder
An MT6701 magnetic angle sensor set up as a smooth contactless rotary encoder, using a sketch Claude helped write to program its EEPROM.

The full story
The maker replaced a cheap mechanical rotary encoder with an MT6701 magnetic angle sensor, which can output standard quadrature signals with no contact bounce or wear. Claude helped write the Arduino sketch used to program the pulses-per-revolution setting into the sensor's EEPROM.
With a magnet glued to an old potentiometer shaft as the knob, it works smoothly, though without detents, and the maker has used one to tune an SI4732-based radio.
