The full story
The owner tracks groceries with Alexa and shops through Instacart. Amazon's official shopping list API had been shut off, but a community integration brings Alexa lists into Home Assistant as to-do lists.
The active items are read over the Home Assistant REST API and matched to products through the Instacart MCP, and Claude in Chrome sets the preferences for out-of-stock items and replacements. A few minutes after saying something to Alexa there is a cart waiting at their store; they review prices and schedule the order themselves, and anything it cannot find is flagged to order elsewhere.
