The full story
Scry is a Windows port of fsearch, a macOS tool by Noah Dunnagan. It indexes every file and folder on fixed drives and answers as you type, with a hotkey search bar, a command line and a JSON-over-named-pipe API. The poster notes the index design is Noah's and the Windows side is new.
On their laptop, with 5.08 million files on C:, a one-word name query takes a median of 0.5 ms and the first crawl of the drive takes 50 to 80 seconds. A new or renamed file becomes searchable in about 0.1 seconds.
