A USB controller to Sega Saturn adapter on an Arduino Uno
An adapter, made with some help from Claude, that lets USB controllers drive a real Sega Saturn, with logic chips handling the console's scanning.

The full story
Wanting to use an arcade controller on a real Sega Saturn, the maker built a USB to Saturn adapter with a little help from Claude. An Arduino Uno with a USB Host Shield reads the controller, and two 74HC153 multiplexers connect to the Saturn's controller port.
The multiplexers handle the Saturn's scanning protocol in hardware, so the Arduino just acts like the buttons on a controller board. The maker admits this is more complicated than needed, but an earlier Genesis adapter on a Raspberry Pi Pico had not worked, so they wanted something reliable.
