A sprinkler that fires when the camera spots a pet on the lawn
Claude wrote a Home Assistant automation that takes camera snapshots, uses AI image analysis to spot a pet and runs the sprinklers for 30 seconds.
The full story
To deter dogs from the front lawn, the poster had Claude AI write a Home Assistant automation linking a UniFi G6 PTZ camera to Rachio sprinklers. When detection fires and no zone is already running, it takes a series of camera snapshots for generative AI image analysis, and runs the sprinklers for 30 seconds if a pet is detected.
He says it was already working one day after setup.
