Smart TVs can recognise what's on screen (automatic content recognition) and sell the viewing data; in 2017 VIZIO paid $2.2 million to settle charges that it collected viewing data from 11 million TVs without consent.
This news video rounds up the week people started pointing Claude Code at their own TVs: Ryan Doyle had ads and bloat removed just by sending the model listing and asking "can you hack this?", Mihir Gupta disabled 25 apps and swapped a 192 MB launcher for an 83 MB one, and a few thousand people used the open-source CleanYourTV in two days. It also notes one person whose TV was bricked and another stuck halfway on a Fire TV.
