The full story
The poster, a .NET developer of over 15 years, owns 11 Reolink Wi-Fi cameras. Reolink's cheaper hub supports only eight and its app makes finding events a chore, while eight months with Frigate brought frequent disconnects, recordings that would not play and extra power use for detection they did not need.
Over a weekend they used Claude Code to build their own NVR that takes the better stream from the cameras and serves it over RTSP so it scales to more clients. Their view is that using AI is sensible "as long as you understand and review" what it generates.
