The full story
The maker's Tuya IR remote stopped working whenever their unreliable internet dropped, so for a first ESP32 project they built their own IR/RF remote for Home Assistant to control an air conditioner and fan. It can now learn and send IR and RF signals.
They asked Claude and Gemini for help and pushed back when something looked wrong; Gemini once suggested plugging 5V into a GPIO, which they avoided. The IR range is only a few metres, much shorter than a TV remote, and they are still looking for a fix.
