The full story
On parental leave, the poster, who works at Grafana Labs, wanted a home project and set out to build thorough monitoring of their Home Assistant stack, learning a lot about HAOS and Zigbee on the way. They say they used a lot of Claude Code to build it, all with open-source Grafana, Alloy, Prometheus and Loki.
Their first step was measuring how busy their ageing Intel NUC was. They added node-exporter to Grafana's Home Assistant add-on, then found the values were wrong because HAOS add-ons cannot mount the host's /proc and /sys.
