The full story
Inspired by a lock screen another Reddit user had shared, the maker recreated it on their Kindle 10th generation, jailbroken with SpiderCat, adding witch hats to the cats in the picture. Claude helped with the work and ChatGPT generated the image.
To avoid hurting battery life, the time and date refresh only when the screen is locked or unlocked, so the Kindle shows when it was last locked. It took longer than the maker expected. The script and instructions are on GitHub, with a note that other Kindle models may need changes.
