The full story
The maker has colour-blind people among family and friends, so they built A Colour: point a phone camera, paste an image or type a word, and it gives the closest colour names. It is offline-first, free and needs no account.
Claude helped with the matching algorithm, the TypeScript and the wording. The word mode uses a hand-curated lookup of 693 entries built with Claude, a text-matching layer that also handles Te Reo, and finally a fine-tuned sentence transformer running in the browser. The maker notes Claude "got a bit sassy" when asked to help train a competing model, but they got there.
