The full story

In Disney Infinity 1.0 (2013), each character figure is locked to its home playset, so Mr. Incredible can only play in the Incredibles world. Modders had tried to lift the restriction for over a decade without success.

The block turned out not to be a single flag: one function, FindPlaysetForCharacter, is called at 13 points across six parts of the game's C++ code, so patching one check leaves the other twelve in place. Data-only mods failed because native code validates first, and DLL injection crashed the game. Working on the binary with no symbols or source, Claude Code (Opus) helped trace the call graph, find all 13 call sites, read the conditional jumps after each one and work out the exact bytes to patch, through several failed attempts.

The patch lets characters play outside their home playsets, and the post drew a large response from the game's modding community.

What this is. Real projects where people used Claude to build, fix, port, revive or take apart something, from jailbroken Kindles to rebuilt DOS games, plus the times it went badly wrong. Every build links to where it was shared, and every source is listed here.

How far to trust it. We summarise what people reported and say what each build rests on: a full write-up with code, a short post, or a passing comment. We haven't tested them ourselves. Photos are shown from the original sources with credit. Only modify hardware you own, and back up first.

Privacy. No accounts. Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) only if you accept them; no ads or cross-site tracking. Searches are counted anonymously (just the words) to show what's popular, and so are clicks on Ask Claude (just the count). The Claude connector only receives the search words your Claude sends it.
