A 10-year-old streaming startup codebase rebuilt in five hours
The co-founder fed the old Afrostream repos to Claude Code and rebuilt a simpler version, cutting 60+ tables to 12 and six languages to one.
The full story
In 2015 the poster co-founded Afrostream, a streaming platform with 21 repos, six languages, over 60 database tables and RabbitMQ microservices. They fed the old GitHub repo to Claude Code, used its brainstorming mode, and rebuilt it in about five hours.
The new version has 12 tables, one language and Postgres triggers instead of RabbitMQ, and is live on Vercel. The poster says the real bottleneck was not code but fetching API keys and finding a poster image. They wrote a longer account on Substack.
