Claude declines reverse engineering for an LG TV

A Portuguese-language report says Claude declined some reverse-engineering requests involving an LG webOS TV. Coverage calls it one documented case, not a confirmed policy.

The full story

In late 2026 a Reddit user posted a screenshot of Claude Opus 5.5 declining a request to reverse engineer an LG webOS TV. Portuguese and German tech sites picked it up, along with similar reports about games.

The coverage stresses that this is one documented case. Anthropic had not commented, and it is unclear whether the refusal reflects a general rule or a misjudged prompt. The German article also points out that the popular TV-debloating projects target Android TV and Google TV, not webOS, so most of that work is unaffected.

Worth knowing

Only one report so far, and the reason isn't clear.

What this is. Real projects where people used Claude to build, fix, port, revive or take apart something, from jailbroken Kindles to rebuilt DOS games, plus the times it went badly wrong. Every build links to where it was shared, and every source is listed here.

How far to trust it. We summarise what people reported and say what each build rests on: a full write-up with code, a short post, or a passing comment. We haven't tested them ourselves. Photos are shown from the original sources with credit. Only modify hardware you own, and back up first.
