Fixing a Linux laptop: power, suspend and display
A write-up describes using Claude to fix power management, suspend and display issues on a Linux laptop after years of annoyances.
The full story
The author had lived with small annoyances on a Linux Mint laptop for years, and the worst was suspend. Linux's login manager couldn't tell "lid closed while docked to a monitor" from "lid closed to pack up", so it either slept when it shouldn't or didn't when it should.
With Claude's help they wrote a small script that checks for an external display (using xrandr) before allowing suspend. That brought back their "shut the lid, pack, reopen" routine. Claude also helped fold power options, notification history and debug logs into their Qtile window manager and Rofi menus.
