Embervale, a browser RPG with no asset files that playtests itself

Opus 5.5 built a three-hero isometric action RPG in plain HTML, CSS and JS over about 60 prompts, with every sprite drawn and every sound synthesised in code.

The full story

Embervale is a small-party action RPG in which you lead three heroes through an isometric valley. Act I has five story quests, six side quests and four bosses, and unlocks a ten-floor dungeon, about two hours of play in all. It is plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript with no build step; every sprite and spell effect is drawn with canvas code and every sound is synthesised with Web Audio, so there isn't a single image or audio file.

Opus 5.5 built it in the Claude app over roughly two days and 60 to 70 prompts, working in its own cloud workspace with a shell, Node and a headless browser. One prompt often set off a long run: build, run the playtest bot, screenshot every zone, compare frame times and hand back a zip. The poster found a "change queue", batching their notes before asking for them to be built, caused much less drift than one-off requests.

What this is. Real projects where people used Claude to build, fix, port, revive or take apart something, from jailbroken Kindles to rebuilt DOS games, plus the times it went badly wrong. Every build links to where it was shared, and every source is listed here.

How far to trust it. We summarise what people reported and say what each build rests on: a full write-up with code, a short post, or a passing comment. We haven't tested them ourselves. Photos are shown from the original sources with credit. Only modify hardware you own, and back up first.

Privacy. No accounts. Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) only if you accept them; no ads or cross-site tracking. Searches are counted anonymously (just the words) to show what's popular, and so are clicks on Ask Claude (just the count).
